You may or may not know that putting on a show is more than just memorizing lines, wearing some costumes and moving around on stage. The phrase, “It takes a village,” is an understatement to the amount of work that goes into the production process. The Backstage Parents Organization, established in 2014, consists of a group of parents whose mission is to support the students and school faculty in each production by helping with all aspects of putting on a show. Without the help of this group, the SMHS Drama Program would not be what it is today.
By joining the BPO, you can help to support the work we do. Though membership is not mandatory, contributing to the theater program while your child is involved is required. Below is a list of ways you can help us:
Join the BPO (The group meets the first Wednesday of every month and the Wednesday right before a show to assist with the other items on this list.)
Participate in a fundraising event
Publicity/Advertising for productions
Donate concession stand items such as bottled water, baked goods, chips, etc.
Donate a raffle basket
Help with set construction and painting (we desperately need help in this area)
Sew/tailor costumes
Help us find props
These are just a few ways to get involved, but remember that no contribution is too small. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids.
